We are quickly approaching the holidays where long travel hours await us. There will be miles upon miles in the car or in the air..so you know what this means....

What are you reading? Do you know any good books?

Excited to share my 5 faves of the moment with you and while we are on the topic of the holidays, I have added these to the gift guide category of my blog. Whenever I am perplexed about shopping for that one difficult person on my list that has everything, my go-to is always a book!

Read it at the beach: The Vacationers by Emma Straub
This smart beach read chronicles a New York family’s two-week vacation in Mallorca. The sunlit island, its mountains and beaches, its tapas and tennis courts, also promise an escape from the tensions simmering at home in Manhattan. But all does not go according to plan: over the course of the vacation, secrets come to light, old and new humiliations are experienced, childhood rivalries resurface, and ancient wounds are exacerbated. This is an oldie but such a goodie.

Step 1: Read together. Step 2: Talk about it. Step 3: Hug it out. This poetry grabs you in places you never thought it would--or maybe you knew so that is why you have not gotten it yet. The Sun and Her Flowers is a vibrant and transcendent journey about growth and healing, ancestry and honoring one’s roots, expatriation + rising up to find a home within yourself. Illustrated by Kaur and divided into five chapters, The Sun and Her Flowers is a journey of wilting, falling, rooting, rising + blooming; a celebration of love in all its forms. And yes--it takes you places.

This upbeat, life-affirming book for creators of all stripes. Each page is a bit of wisdom and empathy from one working artist to the next - helping make sense of things like rejection, failure, false starts, fame, happiness + collaborations - handwritten on notebook pages photographed with vibrant color backgrounds that characterize his art. Perforated tear-and-share pages make it easy to display as reminders or pass a bit of advice onto a friend.
