Traveling During COVID 19-Pet Friendly Staycation Review: The Ambassador OKC,Autograph Collection

Although I was given a complimentary stay at The Ambassador OKC, all opinions expressed in this post are my own.

Hibernating At The Ambassador Hotel OKC, Autograph Collection- My Socially Distant Safe Staycation Close To Home

These last few weeks have super stressful- you know the days where everything works against you?! The days where the world’s weight is just pulling you under the tide and as much as you try to just ride the wave-well you can also ride it so long until you truly cannot breathe. Ugh. Stress.  Stupid, pointless, stress. And then trying to plan your sweet boyfriend’s birthday in the middle of a pandemic just adds to the stress. We are ALWAYS traveling this time of year spending his birthdays on the road or I am planning to get a bunch of people together for a dinner party or a kayaking adventure. But with Covid-19 bringing travel to its knees, we are going to have to think outside the box, right?

We have been home since early March and I know we both have been craving a major change of scenery so I decided we could get our feet wet with a little two day trip to OKC. The drive (yay for driving because you could not pay me to get on a plane right now) is less than two hours from Tulsa so we would not have to use a public restroom. (STILL not okay with the idea of having to use a public restroom and not sure when I will be)

I feel like the rest of 2020 will be devoted to all things in close to home showing some love to our home state!

Anyway….I teamed up with The Ambassador OKC , Autograph Collection for our little adventure ! I have been following them for quite some time and have been impressed with how they are being super safe for their hotel guests. If you have followed me for quite some time, you have definitely heard of them but here is a little refresher from a previous trip last year you can read about here! (lots of stuff to do in OKC and I cannot wait to get back to normal life to partake again) But for this trip we planned to stay in the hotel, only venturing away to walk the pups!! Yes, we took Melvin and Henry! The Ambassador OKC is pet-friendly.

Located right in the heart of the Midtown District, this gorgeous little European inspired boutique hotel is the perfect retreat for a getaway and will feel like your home away from home! The hotel boasts all the amenities you could hope for: complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi, room service and a pet-friendly policy! Don’t forget to enjoy the divine on-site restaurant for delicious cuisine, and end your evening with a cocktail and breathtaking skyline views from Rooftop O Bar. There is also a fitness center and outdoor pool! I’ve documented all my favourite moments and recommendations from my recent staycation below!

It was a perfect few days full of napping, food, and some much needed inspiration! (all my home content is getting rather boring) The grounds are just exquisite this time of year!! Everything is so lush and green. And there are so many gorgeous blooms everywhere. Henry is such a sucker for flowers like his momma!

THE ROOM

One of Ambassador Hotel Oklahoma City, Autograph Collection’s obvious perks is that it’s very easy on the eye. The property embodies its 1920s boutique charm while providing a modern experience! Design has been done homely whilst still polished. We had a beautiful cozy corner room with a downtown view!

Beds are deeply comfortable (it’s actually hard to get up once you’re cocooned into the marshmallow of a duvet) Soooo many pillows!!!! Hotels have become quite greedy in the pillow arena but not this property!

A soothing neutral dark palette ran through the room - culminating in a beautiful spacious bathroom complete with a bathtub and a separate walk- in-stone shower!! It’s getting harder and harder to find a hotel with a nice big bathtub and I am a bath girl!!!

The monogrammed micro-fiber bathrobes and over-sized bath towels are always a favorite too! I also love the lighted make-up mirror and the complimentary bottled water offered.

We were greeted with Cuvée Cookies too! I think the hotel knows the way to my heart!

FOOD & DRINK

First thing’s first: you will not go hungry - or thirsty - at Ambassador Hotel Oklahoma City, Autograph Collection.

In fact, you might not want to eat ever again after you leave because you will have eaten anything in your way during your stay.

Where to begin?

Breakfast at Café Cuvéeopt for room service!!! Why not?! I mean how often do we have breakfast in bed these days? Plus if you are being super safe in the pandemic-this is the way to go. (I will say that you should request for them to just leave the brekkie tray outside the door of the room…we had ours delivered inside the room and then later said why did we do that??! The person delivering it was masked but still..we were not-again it’s all about minimizing risk and exposure to as many people as possible. We want to keep our circles small)

Lin enjoyed a classic standard breakfast of eggs, bacon and toast. He is pretty simple when it comes to food. I am more adventurous and of course with Cuvèe being French I went with the Quiche Lorraine. It was very different from the Quiche Lorraine I make that you can find here which was nice too! You can also use a room service order form that you will find in your room. Just fill out your order and hang it on the outside of the door before 3 a.m. You can chose the time you want your breakfast delivered too so that was a very nice touch! Well played Ambassador OKC, well played!

For a light tasty lunch, also do Café Cuvée and dine on the outside terrace or by the pool! Either location is an ideal spot for a brief pause to soak up everything. Food is French but very approachable and unpretentious but it’s also very polished! We shared the Kir Imperial Salad which consists of French Greens, Champagne Vinaigrette, Cherry Tomatoes, Bleu Cheese, Toasted Almonds, Raspberry Pickled Onion & Chambord Glaze! And I am telling you that Chambord Glaze is soooooo delicious! We also shared a classic French Dip Sandwich. I would have had the escargot but like I said..Lin is a simple man with his food. (wine not so much) It’s so yummy- lovely seared Flank Steak, Swiss Cheese, Garlic Aioli, 9 Grain Mustard and it’s served with a side of French Onion Soup so you just cannot go wrong! You will greatly enjoy the wine list too! Check it out here. And don’t forget the Crème Brûlée! This one is a Lavender Custard with Fresh Berries & Cuvée Cookies…..OMG!!!! OMG!!!!

For a truly special evening, begin with patio rooftop cocktails at O Bar on the 7th floor of the hotel! The downtown views are lovely! And we were the only people on the patio. I was pretty nervous about this as we have not been to a bar since the beginning of March. The waiter had on a mask and kept his distance from us! They offer classic cocktails, seasonal cocktails, local craft beer, wine by the glass and bottle and small bites to curb your appetite! It’s just the loveliest place to have a happy hour. You do not have to be a hotel guest to enjoy it so please check it out! I love the Painkiller Cocktail. (Aged Demerara Rum, Pineapple, Orange, Cream of Coconut) Be careful though…two might be the limit! They use a whole 2 ounces of rum in each drink! Here is a menu for you to look over!

PET AMENITIES

Just going to let these photos speak for themselves!!! P.S -there is a dog park across the street!

Just cannot wait to have a nice little weekend here again! Perhaps in the fall?!

Thank you for a wonderful mini escape Ambassador OKC!!!

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) still suggests staying home for your own safety as well as for those you may encounter upon leaving the house. However, if you do decide to travel this summer and stay in a hotel, local laws permitting, you’ll want to take as many safety precautions as possible.

1. Pick your destination wisely.

2. Before booking a stay, research the hotel’s plan to protect guests and staff.

3. Find out what the hotel’s plans are for guests who fall ill during their stay.

4. Wear a mask and stay at least six feet away from others.

5. Ask for a room that has not been occupied for a few days.

6. Sanitize your room upon arrival.

7.Decline housekeeping services to reduce the number of people in your room. Decline Room service coming in-they can deliver at the door. Decline MAINTENANCE if THERE'S a PROBLEM and ask for a DIFFERENT room.
