Summer of Pink

Spending the morning in an ecstasy of language and emotion.

I highly recommend The Summer of Pink if you are looking for a new beautiful read by the pool!

Teacher, writer, influencer, activist, and poet, Gabrielle Mbeki writes to heal.

Summer of Pink is a wonderful collection of poems reflecting on the breakdown of relationships and intimacy, and how it influences a person. Created with three sections in mind to show the intuitiveness of looking at the past, present, and future, with the help of three Major Arcana tarot cards; the most impactful cards to the author in order to guide her, and the reader through her path of love, loss, and redemption.

I grabbed this below directly from Gabrielle’s Instagram .

“What does #thesummerofpink mean? .
It’s two fold actually....when I was younger, I was absolutely against the color pink. Once, I was able to choose to dress myself I tried to stay away from it. I felt suffocated if I had too much of it on. It made me feel too young at a stage when I wanted to feel sophisticated and treated older (doesn’t every teenager want that), but as I hit my latter half of my twenties and moved into my thirties, I began to embrace it (I painted a whole wall in my apartment the color). Not only the femininity attributed to it, but the fact that for me it invoked passion and love, something that I was beginning to really long for and try to immerse myself in. I realized I was beginning to get softer, but my strength and stubbornness to protect myself from pain was also fighting it. Therefore, I decided to focus on my poetry. I dabbled here and there for years, but it felt time to expose the wound to oxygen and begin to heal something that was hurting for so long. I decided that this summer I was going to be #thesummerofpink. .
.
The other reason is more for you aura enthusiasts - besides a homage to my basic #millennial self - because those who carry a pink aura, which is actually rare, have the ability to seek unconditional love; has happiness and joy in their life; and accept self-love. All things I want to obtain and will manifest in this life, but first I had to heal! So there you have it...and the millions times I have said thank you still doesn’t not do justice for the love and support that I have received on this platform!” - Gabrielle Mbeki

Gabrielle is doing such amazing things out there everyone. Her and other Black creators held a virtual protest a few weeks ago that Lin and I attended! It was held as a way to find space for people who wanted to be part of the movement but due to restrictions could not make it out in person to the many protests and rallies around the world! Lin and I were so thankful because we have been sheltering in place for months but wanted to show support in this way! All of the donations went to @blklivesmatter ! It was the first protest I have ever attended! And of course my first virtual protest!
