Over the last few months here in Santa Fe I’ve come to think of designing this home as a process that’s a bit evolving. It is sooo very different from the Tulsa space. Yet we are still very much dedicated to a minimalist aesthetic! However here in this Santa Fe home- I have realized that a minimal aesthetic doesn’t mean it has to feel cold or spare—our design approach is based on “warm minimalism” that incorporates lots of texture and materiality to make a home feel cozy. We’ve found that when we have less stuff, we simply often discover more joy in the special things we do have. It’s an approach that’s not built on trends; rather it’s slowly building a collection of pieces that speak to you, being thoughtful about each of the purchases.

There’s a certain joy that comes from giving an old piece new life. Instead of immediately discarding an old or broken item, ask yourself if it can be repaired, displayed, or used in an unexpected way. The beauty of vintage pieces is rooted in repurposing something old to bring life and soul into a newer space.

Leaning into natural earth tones too has been instrumental in this design!! We originally thought we would add pops of color everywhere but once we did in certain areas of this home, it just beame very unsettling to us. We feel a sense of ease surrounded by natural hues!

We think embracing the imperfect too has had to come into fruition. The realization that our homes are ever-changing and never “done” relieves the pressure of making everything perfect from day one. We would rather slowly choose the pieces that speak to us, even if that means leaving a little breathing space in some of the rooms until we find that just-right piece that speaks to us!!

But we are one step closer in the stairwell now that we did find that special old piece that screamed our named at The Collective in Santa Fe. We visited right before Labor Day weekend and while nothing stood out to us on the sales floor, we did find it hiding in the store owner’s special storage area! It is a great tapestry from Turkey and when Lisa showed it to us- we just knew it was the one! I cannot wait to show you when we have this beauty back from the tailor!!!
