Sparkling Blood Orange Mocktail Recipe

Excited to be on a Sober Curious journey this year and possibly indefinitely!

Sober curious simply means that you’ve chosen to avoid alcohol for personal or wellness reasons. It involves curiosity about the reasons fueling your desire to drink and the way alcohol affects your life.

And if somebody notices someone ordering a mocktail or not drinking it’s just best to not ask and go about your business! Just FYI. Seriously…so over the questions. Alcohol is the one drug people constantly question you as to why you don’t do it. LOL.

No people who don’t drink are not necessarily pregnant ! Or have a problem with alcohol !

In my case I am definitely not pregnant! And don’t have any problems with alcohol! I do take medication that I shouldn’t mix with alcohol . And truthfully.. I don’t particularly like the taste of alcohol and I don’t drink to get a buzz. I actually hate feeling buzzed! Plus truth be known I prefer to eat my calories

I drink because it’s become the social thing to do ! And I like the pretty glass and I love not having to answer questions about why I am not drinking anymore! So when I take a look at this -it makes me wonder wtf I am even doing! Mocktails are beautiful and tasty! Water and iced tea are my faves too! Plus I will admit I love an icey cold Dr.Pepper ! ( Texas girl) And I love a Mexican coke with fresh lime juice over lots of crushed ice!

And I don’t need to compromise my standards because I feel like I am not socially accepted. If friends don’t want to hang with me because I am not drinking I think it’s silly but this year I am focusing on my well being and not so much about others! As a Pisces we tend to do that and I am committed to filling my tank first ! I care so much about what people think of me and I am just done with that! I like myself just how I am.

Will I maybe sip a glass of wine at an art opening ? Or go to Napa with my love? Or maybe try a margarita from time to time -possibly! I don’t really know! Just sober curious! And am loving restaurants and bars taking notice of this movement and adding a section of non alcoholic drinks to their menus!

It’s actually more common nowadays for people to not drink! And if you reading going WTF is wrong with Sam I challenge to maybe ask yourself why you drink alcohol and write down the positive ways it affects your life!

I have been having so much fun with mocktails and think they are way more fun than alcohol. Drinking can be all about enjoying flavors and unwinding, and getting intoxicated is an unwanted by-product so mocktails are just it for me!

I have not had alcohol in about 4 months and I don’t miss it one bit.

Socially I will say it’s hard for me though to still go out and not drink with other people who are drinking. Not because I feel pressured to drink alcohol but because the energy levels are just so different and I find myself annoyed so that will take some navigating!

Anyway.. I received the most amazing blood oranges in my Local Farm Bag the other day and had to make a delicious sparkling blood orange mocktail to say farewell to the winter season. Blood oranges are so very easy on the eyes. They get their ruby-red color from anthocyanins, the same heart-healthy pigments that give blueberries their color.

Just one blood orange delivers more than a day’s supply of Vitamin C, which may boost immune function – something we all need during the winter months. Vitamin C is essential for healthy cells and healing.

Blood oranges are also a good source of fiber which helps keep cholesterol levels in check among other things.

So now let’s make the mocktail!!

Ingredients

  • 8 oz. blood orange juice, freshly squeezed

  • 1 tablespoon honey

  • 4 oz. lime sparkling water

  • blood orange slices for garnish

    Instructions

  • Squeeze the blood orange juice into a mason jar with a lid or cocktail shaker. Add the honey to the unchilled juice. Shake. Add ice to cool it down.

  • Pour evenly into two ice-filled glasses. Top with lime sparkling water and a slice of blood orange on top.

    CHEERS!
