Tesuque Village Market

The venerable Spanish village of Tesuque was founded in 1740 and is situated a few miles south of the current Pueblo and just north of Santa Fe, the heart of Spanish colonial occupation.

Tesuque is a Tewa word which refers to the village’s river’s alternating from and disappearance into the sand.

I cannot get enough of the huge beautiful cottonwood trees in Tesuque! Plus we love driving The Old Spanish Trail from Santa Fe to Tesuque and from Tesuque back to Santa Fe! The Old Spanish Trail is an historical trade route that connected the northern New Mexico settlements of Santa Fe, New Mexico with those of Los Angeles, California and southern California.

Tesuque Village is not only the home of the Tesuque Pueblo but it's rumored that a number of the mega stars that grace the big screen have chosen to make Tesuque their home. It's not unusual to see a big star walk into the Tesuque market...a favorite eatery in the middle of the village...to have a bite to eat. A friend of mine told me that she ran into Bruce Dern when she was there with friends. Robert Redford has also made an appearance too…so I heard. Rumor also has it that Oprah Winfrey, Val Kilmer and others have residences in this picturesque village.

Tesuque Village Market is simply one of our favorite places for a date night!! Nothing fancy…..totally casual and just really good food and the BEST margaritas in New Mexico! Trust me! The House Margarita is just to die for.

We so adore this funky cafe with a varied, eclectic menu centered on New Mexican fare, plus a general store & bakery. Do get a loaf of the Green Chile Cheddar Bread to take home and enjoy. It sells out every night so grab one right when you arrive!

Highly recommend the chips and queso to start.

The Tortilla Soup is an excellent choice on a brisk night and their Green Chile Stew is also delicious! It was freezing here in Santa Fe last night so a spicy bowl of soup was just perfection. The Tortilla Soup is made with roasted tomatoes, onions, Anaheim green chiles, red chile powder, jalapenos and cumin in a chicken broth. The finishing touch is a garnish of Cojita cheese, creme fraiche and tortilla chips. Fresh corn tortilla chips are also blended with the soup. This gives it a thicker consistency than most soups.

We also love the Chicken Enchiladas with red and green chile! They are served with the most delicious pinto beans and tequila lime rice.

The Half Rotisserie Chicken is an excellent choice too!

And you cannot go wrong with any of their desserts!!!! The chocolate pie is a personal fave!

We had a wonderful night! I even got dressed up. Hadn’t worn heels in months and needed to practice! HA.

Have you ever been to Tesuque Village Market? What did you order? I would love to hear all about your experience in the comments! I want to also remind you to check out Shidoni while you are in Tesuque too. You can read all about it here. I had just started my blog though so please be kind. I was using a really bad iphone camera at the time!
